Arizona Diamondbacks Pitch Day, First in the NL West

Arizona Diamondbacks: 6, Texas Rangers: 0

Zac Gallen's second shutout of the season, one earned run allowed by the bullpen

Zac Gallen pitched his second shutout of the season as the Arizona Diamondbacks won their ninth consecutive game, matching their longest winning streak of the season and handing the Rangers their sixth straight loss, Saturday night at Globe Life Field.

Daulton Varsho's double extended his hitting streak to 25 games as he drove in the first two runs of the game to back Gallen.

The D-Backs extended their NL West lead over the second-place San Diego Padres to 7 1/2 games.

Gallen allowed four hits and three walks while striking out 11 in the first complete game of his career. The shutout lowered his ERA to 2.95. Ian Kennedy and Mark Melancon finished off the combined shutout. Kennedy allowed two hits in 2 1/3 innings, while Melancon pitched a scoreless ninth.

Varsho drove in Alek Thomas, who singled, and Josh Rojas, who doubled, to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead in the third.

Christian Walker's two-run homer off Texas starter Glenn Otto in the fourth inning increased the lead to 4-0.

Corbin Carroll singled home Buddy Kennedy in the sixth and scored on Geraldo Perdomo's single to make it 6-0.

The Rangers have been shut out five times during their six-game losing streak but have been held to two or fewer runs in 14 of their last 18 games.

Arizona will face Texas again Sunday before playing three games in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The Rangers will return home to face their division rivals, the Houston Astros, in a three-game series at Globe Life Field.
