Victoria Atkins Resigns

Atkins resigns from role as a justice minister

In a blow to Boris Johnson, Tory MP has announced she is standing down

Victoria Atkins, the MP for Louth and Horncastle, has quit as a justice minister in the latest setback for the prime minister

Atkins, who was also a parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice, said in her resignation letter that she had "grave concerns" about the "integrity, decency and respect" of the government's operations.

She added: "I can no longer reconcile my values with the standards that are being set by the current administration."

Atkins is the second minister to resign from the government in as many days, following the resignation of treasury minister John Glen on Tuesday.

Her resignation comes amid a growing number of scandals and controversies engulfing the government, including the Chris Pincher scandal and the "partygate" scandal.

It is a further blow to Johnson, who is already facing calls to resign from within his own party.
