Former White House National Security Adviser Joins Presidential Race

Bolton Cites Experience and National Security Expertise as Reasons for Running

WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 (Reuters) - Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton announced Friday that he will run for president in the 2024 election. Bolton, a Republican, served as national security adviser under President Donald Trump from 2018 to 2019.

Bolton made the announcement during an interview on Fox News, saying that he believes his experience and national security expertise make him the best qualified candidate to lead the country.

"I'm running for president because I believe that America needs strong leadership," Bolton said. "We need a leader who will restore our national security, rebuild our economy, and defend our values."

Bolton is a controversial figure, known for his hawkish views on foreign policy. He has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration's handling of the war in Ukraine and the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

Bolton's entry into the race adds another high-profile candidate to the Republican field. Other declared Republican candidates include former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
