Curtis Blaydes threw a flurry of hammerfist punches to grab a TKO win over Jailton Almeida. In the final preliminary bout at Kaseya Center in Miami, Blaydes (18-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC) solved the puzzle that was Almeida (17-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), an undefeated prospect who came into the contest with 11 submission wins.
Almeida was able to keep the fight standing for the majority of the first round. Blaydes displayed his power early, dropping Almeida with a right hand. However, Almeida recovered and was able to land some shots of his own. Blaydes attempted several takedowns, but Almeida was able to defend them all.
In the second round, Blaydes was able to get Almeida to the ground and took his back. Almeida gave up his back and Blaydes started raining down hammerfists. The referee stopped the fight after just 36 seconds of the second round.
With the win, Blaydes rebounded from a knockout loss to Derrick Lewis in February. He has now won four of his past five fights.
